Food & Nutrition
Healthy nutrition interventions need to occur early in childhood and adolescence in order to prevent or reverse the adverse effects of obesity and poor eating habits. Childhood and adolescence are critical periods for diet of high nutritional quality, as the psychological need for nutrients is high, relative to energy needs during these active stages of development. In addition to it, many core eating habits and behavioral patterns are developed in the early stages of life and these persist throughout adulthood.
GIS serves a pure vegetarian diet for its students, cooked in a hygienic kitchen by our expert in house catering staff. The menu is full of sumptuous multi-cuisine food items. Our kitchen staff is very cautious about food allergies. Concerned about the fact that many students and staff are sensitive to nuts, gluten, dairy and other foods, they strive to keep these needs in mind. The menu is planned in consultation with the nutritionist and dining hall committee which consist of students and staff. Everyday, five meals are served: breakfast, snacks, lunch, milk and snacks and dinner with desert and milk.
The dining hall is a reflection of the idea “what you eat is what you become”. The dishes are not only carefully prepared keeping in mind the nutritional requirements and holistic growth of every child, but are also immensely delicious and appetizing. A stringent food safety and hygiene regime is followed to keep the kitchen, storage and dining area diligently clean and sterile. The teachers supervise each and every student during their meal-time so that no student skips the meals and promote table manners among students.
Here, a wholesome, balanced and vegetarian diet is provided to the students keeping in view of their body requirements on the recommendation of a dietician and we always lay stress on the quality of the food to be served to the children.
