What is Physics and why it is important?

Definition of Physics:

Physics is the natural science that studies matter, its fundamental constituents, its motion and behaviour through space and time, and the relative entities of energy and force. Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, with its main goal being to understand how the universe behaves.

Importance of Physics

Physics and other sciences

Physics utilizes elements of other branches of sciences, biology and chemistry. For example, it has the reputation of being more complicated than other sciences.

Studying Physics is important because each of the other natural sciences Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Material sciences, medicines, engineering and others, work with systems which adhere to the laws of Physics is often referred to as the “fundamental science.”

Physics and mathematics

Many of the physics definitions, models, and theories are expressed using mathematical symbols and formulas. The difference between physics and mathematics is that ultimately physics is concerned with descriptions of the material world whereas mathematics is focused on abstract logical patterns that may extend beyond the real world. There is no clean-cut distinction between mathematics and physics, somewhere physics leaves off and mathematics picks up and vice-versa. Hence grey areas between mathematics and physics tend to be called “mathematical physics.”

Physics in Engineering and Technology
Both engineering and technology also have relation with physics. For example, electrical engineering studies the practical application of electromagnetism. That is why we can find physics to be component in the building of bridges, in the creation of electronic equipment, nuclear weaponry, lasers, barometers, other valuable measurement devices.

Range of fields in Physics

Physics has a large range of fields than the other sciences. For instance

Acoustics: Study of sound and sound waves.

2 Astronomy: Study of space.

Astrophysics: Study of the physical properties of the objects in space.

4 Biophysics: Study of physics in living systems.

5 Chemical Physics: Study of physics in chemical systems.

Computational Physics: Application of numerical methods to solve a problem for which a quantitative stheory already exists.

Cosmology: study of universe as a whole, including its origin and evolution.

8 Molecular Physics: Study of physical properties of molecules.

Optics and light physics: Study of the physical properties of light.

10 Particle Physics: Study of the fundamental particles and the forces of their interaction.

11 Nuclear Physics: Study of the physical properties of the atomic nucleus.

12 Nanotechnology: Science of building circuits and machines from single molecule and atoms.

13 Mechanics: Study of the motion of bodies in a frame of reference.

14 Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Physics: Study of science where the smallest discrete values or quanta of matter and energy become relevant.

There are many more fields of Physics which we can study. The knowledge of physics is vast and endless, therefore it has more scopes for career options and achievements. So learning physics provides you with more scopes and excitements, that’s why it is important to study physics.
